Solar Paper: New Thinnest Solar-Powered Charger

Created by the startup YOLK, Solar Paper can charge an iPhone 6 in 2.5 hours, and is only 1.5 millimeters thin and weighs 120g. According to YOLK, it is “the world’s thinnest and lightest solar charger.”

The charger is composed of solar panels that can be easily attached together with magnets, to increase or decrease charging power. The magnets also allow the panels to attach to metal surfaces. Additionally, the charger is water-resistant.

Solar Paper is being funded by a Kickstarter campaign; they will be accepting donations for another 36 days. Currently, the technology has 1,747 backers and has received $244,603 in pledges – their goal was only $50,000. On the Kickstarter page, the company stated that they would ship the first batch in September of this year, and the second batch in October or November. The basic 5W two-panel version is set to sell for $69.
