Although it has been two years since he has won a tournament, Tiger Woods is tied for the lead at 11 under, along with Tom Hoge, and in contention after the second day of the Wyndham Championship.

Woods shot six under par on Thursday, Aug. 20 at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.; the first time he has ever played the course.

His birdie on the first seemed to be a confidence boost which led to two more consecutive birdies on holes four and five.

After finishing out the front with four pars, Woods started with a birdie on the back, but proceeded to make his only bogey of the day on the par four eleventh. However, he wrapped up the day with three birdies on 13, 15 and 18 to finish with a 64 for his opening round and tied for fifth.

In contrast to his previous start, Woods began his second round with a bogey on the par four first and another bogey on the seventh. After making birdie on holes three, five and eight, he had a slow front nine and gained only one stroke, starting the back nine at seven under.

The par three twelfth and par four thirteenth gave him two back-to-back birdies.

On the par five fifteenth, Woods made it on the green in two before holing a ten and a half foot putt for eagle, which tied him for the lead at 11 under.

He went on to par the sixteenth and seventeenth, missing a 19 foot birdie putt on the latter hole due to too much speed, although the line was there.

Woods made par on the final hole to finish 65 for the day and 11 under for the tournament before the start of the weekend.

According to USA Today, Woods is attempting to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which means he will need to move to the top 125 players in the rankings. He will have to finish first or possibility tied for second this weekend to do so.

Woods is currently ranked No. 187 in the FedEx Cup standings and No. 286 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
