Protestors Shut Down Bernie Sanders Rally

Protestors claiming affiliation with the Black Lives Matter movement disrupted a rally for Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders today in Seattle.

Just after Sanders took the stage, two women and a man climbed the stage, confronting Sanders and demanding the opportunity to speak.

Event organizers relented and gave them the chance.

According to The Hill:

One protester, who identified herself as Marissa Johnson, began by saying, “I was going to tell Bernie how racist this city is — with all of its progressives — but you’ve already done that for me. Thank you.”

“Bernie says that he’s all about the people and about grassroots. The biggest grassroots movement in this country right now is Black Lives Matter,” she added.

Johnson then demanded four-and-a-half minutes of silence in honor of the four-and-a-half hours Michael Brown allegedly lay dead in the streets of Ferguson, MO.

People in the crowd yelled “get off the stage” and “arrest her” while others said to let her speak.

After the four-and-a-half minutes, the protestors remained on stage, leading Sanders to walk into the crowd and greet supporters who chanted his name.

The event was organized to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Social Security and 50th anniversary of Medicare.
