HipDaily Exclusive with George Dalton, Netflix and YouTube Star

Remember the young boy whose Trap Queen cover took the world by storm overnight? Well, the young boy’s name is George Dalton, and he also stars on the Netflix original series Wet Hot American Summer. For those of you unfamiliar with the show, it’s a prequel to the 2001 movie which focuses on the last day of camp at Camp Firewood. The new series, instead, focuses on the first day at Camp Firewood, taking viewers through the adventures that ensue on day one of summer camp. For George, the highlight of working on the show is being surrounded by such a wonderful cast.

The cast and crew are what really makes the show the most fun. They really are like a second family,” George said.

But when George isn’t acting on Wet Hot American Summer, he is busy recording covers of some of his favorite songs. His most recent cover, Trap Queen by Fetty Wap, has broken 1 million views on YouTube and has received mixed reviews. Although George is taking the negativity with a grain of salt, it’s still not the easiest thing for him to deal with.

“I am proud of the video and how I expressed my voice and creativity. As an artist, you’re always putting yourself out there. You hope that people understand and like what you do, but that is not always the case. You just keep moving forward and keep doing your thing,” George said.

Determined not to let the negativity get him down, George is already in the studio working on yet another cover. By the end of the year, he plans to release an original single. And besides for being busy acting and recording, he also puts creative input into all of his projects.

“I am very involved in all the videos I make. With Trap Queen I knew I wanted a 1950’s type feel. I wanted it to be fun and tell a story. I had recently been watching a lot of Meghan Trainor and took inspiration from her work,” George said.

Be sure to check out George’s YouTube channel, and catch him as the quirky Radio Jockey on Wet Hot American Summer. Watch his cover of Trap Queen below!
