According to scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), July was the hottest month on Earth ever recorded, with an average temperature of 61.9° F.

Records of global temperature began in the 1880s. 9 of the 10 hottest months recorded since have occurred after 2005.

The NOAA stated in a report that they expect 2015 to be the hottest year on record.

The previous hottest month was July 1998. July 2015 broke the previous record by 0.08 degrees.

According to scientists, July’s record-breaking temperatures are due to global climate change and El Nino.
