Carson and Trump tied in Iowa poll

According to a Monmouth University survey–projecting likely Republican Iowa caucusgoers-Ben Carson is tied with Donald Trump in the state of Iowa.

This is big news as it has been four months since Trump was not seen leading a poll in the first four states to hold nomination contests.

Both candidates held 23 percent of all Iowans who were polled. Other candidates included Carly Fiorina, Senator Ted Cruz. and Governor Scott Walker.

There seems to be a growing appetite for political outsiders in the state.

This is bad news for candidates who were banking on Iowa to propel them towards nomination. Those who were once favorites are barely registering with voters there.

A poll from the Des Moines Register showed Trump leading, but revealed that Carson was close behind.

Those considered to be “very conservative” chose Carson.

“After more than a month of Trump winning virtually every Republican demographic group, we’ve finally got a little variation in voting blocs to talk about,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.

Monmouth’s poll of 405 Republicans had a margin of sampling error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.

Given the drastic change in poll numbers in recent months, November 2016 could prove even more interesting.
