A Bronx cab driver from the African nation of Guinea was arrested by New York City police on Tuesday after rushing to the aid of his wife and sister in law who were fighting off a rapist in their apartment. Mamadou Diallo, 61, was working when he received a call from his wife that she was being attacked. Diallo raced home and confronted career criminal and attempted rapist, Earl Nash, 43. Diallo went in armed with the tire iron from his cab and beat Nash to death.

Diallo was arrested and arraigned on Tuesday night charged with assault and the criminal possession of a weapon though police did not explain how possessing a tire iron was a crime. As he was being led from the courthouse, Diallo simply remarked that, “He had threatened my wife.”

Nenegale Diallo was home alone with her sister when a knock on the door caused her to believe that it was her children returning from a night out with friends. When she opened the door, there stood Nash who forced his way in. Diallo told Nash that if he just wanted money that she would give it to him. Nash started to take his pants off and told her that, “I don’t want money. I want to rape you.”

Nash went for Diallo’s sister first so she tried to escape to the door to get help all the while screaming for help. Nash grabbed her, however, through her back into the room and hit her with a chair. She shook off her injuries and went to the aid of her sister who was trying desperately to fight off Nash. As the struggle continued, she reached for her phone and hit the first number on her speed dial which was her husband’s number. She screamed to him for help and told him to call the police. Nash was on her punching her as the phone fell to the floor. The connection was still there so Diallo could hear the struggle all the way home.

Diallo got his wife’s call for help and got home in 20 minutes. Nash tried to flee and Diallo confronted him with a tire iron and a fight ensued. Diallo beat Nash until he was down and police arrived. Nash died of his injuries soon after at the hospital. Friends and family gathered outside the police station and courthouse in support as they said Diallo has been in America for 27 years and was a good man with a loving family and a good job. Diallo has no record while Nash was a career criminal with 14 arrests to his credit.
