Two young British teens were charged today in the brutal murders of a school cafeteria worker and her young teenage daughter. Elizabeth Edwards, 49, and her 13 year old daughter, Katie were found dead last Friday afternoon in their home in Lincolnshire, England. Edwards worked in a local primary school as a dinner lady and the entire town and neighborhood remain in shock.
The two 14 year old’s, a boy and a girl, were in Lincoln Youth Court on Monday morning to face a judge and to be formally charged with the double murder. The two children spoke only to confirm what their names were and where they were currently living. They were remanded to the youth detention authorities and will have to appear in court again on Monday afternoon.
Tributes began to overwhelm social media after the news first broke of the murders. Ms. Edward’s partner put up a special tribute to her and her daughter Katie. Outpourings of shock and love were everywhere and many stopped by the Edwards home to say goodbye and to leave flowers and gifts.
The Lincolnshire police are asking anyone who may have seen anything to come forward and the names of the children charged with the murders are not being released. The police have not revealed any possible motive for the murder as of yet. In addition, the police said on Sunday that autopsies have not been performed on Edwards and her daughter yet to try and determine the exact cause of death.
Neighbors said that the two had not been seen for a couple of days but were well known to the neighborhood and well like by all. Police forensic teams remain at the Edwards house in search of physical evidence and clues to the murders. There is a smashed front window at the home that has been boarded up. Ms. Edwards was a well known dinner lady at the local school and many of the children in the area knew her and she was well liked and respected by them.
