Turner sports reporter Craig Sager gets good report on cancer fight

Good news for Turner Sports report Craig Sager.

He has been medically cleared to return home after cancer treatment.

Sager, 64, has had a back and forth battle with leukemia since April of 2014. He had briefly was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in April 2014 and went into remission following a bone marrow transplant. He even briefly returned to the NBA sidelines in March, but later that month it returned and he’s been in treatment ever since.

In July, Sager underwent stem cell treatment and doctors hoped would help facilitate remission. The fact the hospital released Sager from its care ahead of schedule is undoubtedly a positive sign, but Craig Jr. did not offer a formal update on his father’s diagnosis.

In August, in an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Sager had this to say about his treatment:

“I was on hard-core chemo 24 hours a day for 14 days had the (transplant) after I got into remission, and there’s a period after that to see if your body accepts the transplant. I had major tests (last) week from brain scans to chest X-rays and bone marrow biopsies, and all 20 markers came back and none showed any kind of leukemia.

Everything has been very positive. The doctors say they couldn’t be happier and things couldn’t be in a better place. That’s good news to my ears.”

With Sager returning home, hopefully it’s not too long before he gets clearance to return to the NBA sidelines.
