Late on Tuesday morning, police in Washington DC tracked down and captured an armed man who had hijacked a city metro bus and killed a pedestrian. The man, Keith Loving, 30, was taken into custody after a confrontation at a gas station. He was armed though police have not revealed the manner of weapon he had.

Loving had originally boarded the city metro bus at the 3800 block of Jay Street NE and the bus was headed for Lincoln Heights. As he boarded, the driver said that Loving just stood there with a strange look on his face and didn’t even move. The driver asked him to be seated but Loving continued to stand there just staring at the driver.

At the next stop, Loving attacked the driver with an unidentified weapon. The driver, who was not seriously injured, hit the emergency button which notified the metro center and gave the bus’ GPS coordinates. The emergency button also sends a message to the DC police. Loving removed the driver and gained control of the bus and headed toward Minnesota Avenue.

He drove for several blocks and then jumped the curb at a Crown gas station at Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenues which is an extremely well traveled area as it is the last stop before entering Maryland. As he roared into the crowded station complex, he struck a 40 year old man who later died from his injuries at a nearby hospital.

When the police arrived, they stood in front of the bus to confront Loving and they ordered him to get out of the bus. As they did so, Loving began to rev the engine hard and looked as if he intended to drive right into the police. The police maneuvered away and stormed the bus and captured Loving.

Details with regard to who Loving is and the motive for his bizarre hijacking remains under investigation by DC police.
