Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?” Tops Billboard Charts

21-year-old pop icon Justin Bieber’s new single “What Do You Mean?” premiered as No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, marking a new milestone in Bieber’s career.

In all of the Hot 100’s 57-year history, Bieber is only the 23rd artist to ever achieve the No. 1 spot during a song’s debut.

While this is Bieber’s first No. 1 debut song on the chart, Bieber did rank as No. 2 in 2012 with the premiere of his song “Boyfriend”.

Bieber first performed “What Do You Mean?” at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, where he was so moved by the support of his fans that he cried at the end of his performance.

“What Do You Mean?” sales began with 337,000 downloads and was played over 21 million times in 5 days on Spotify, setting a new record for Spotify’s song that was played the most during its debut week (both for the U.S and globally).

One Direction was the previous record holder, with 20 million plays over the course of a week during its debut of “Drag Me Down”.

Bieber newest album with be released on November 13th.
