“Fifth Beatle” George Martin has passed

The iconic producer most well known for his work with the Beatles has passed away at the age of 90. Sir George Martin’s death was confirmed by Ringo Starr on Tuesday.

Often referred to as “the Fifth Beatle,” offered the Beatles their first recording contract, produced virtually all of their music.

Martin also worked with Kate Bush, Jeff Beck, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cilla Black, America, Billy J. Kramer, Cheap Trick, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Celine Dion, the Action, and solo efforts by Starr and Paul McCartney.

He produced the 1997 hit by Elton John, “Candle in the Wind,” one of the best-selling songs of all time. He was awarded multiple Grammy Awards and was nominated for an Oscar for his work on A Hard Day’s Night. He was officially knighted in 1996.
