“Blue Lives Matter” billboards appear nationwide

“Blue Lives Matter”, pro-police billboards are springing up across America.

A Memphis-based advertising firm Tactical Magic created the first sign to honor local police officers.

Lamar, a Louisiana-based billboard advertising company, liked the message and it donated 150 billboards around the country to the campaign. Expect to see them through the end of the month.

The navy blue signs are in in Michigan, Georgia, Oregon and Ohio, and seven billboards reported in the Toledo area alone.

The hashtag #thankublu is also on the signs. It’s the name of an Instagram account that features photos of the signs.

“Our only purpose is to thank and support the men and women in law enforcement that put their lives on the line for our safety every day,” according to the account bio.

Community leader Darel Ross, questions the intent behind the campaign and the borrowing of its phrasing from Black Lives Matter.

“I think in some aspects it’s shameful that the brand is being co-opted, but once again it was never meant to say ‘only black lives matter,’” Ross said.
