Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said on Tuesday that he believes that American Muslims who adhere to sharia law and embrace American values of democracy (including separation of church and state) must be “schizophrenic”.
“Only if they’re schizophrenic. I don’t see how they can do it otherwise, because you have two different philosophies” in conflict with each other, he explained to Breitbart News Daily host Stephen Bannon.
Carson has previously stated during his campaign that a Muslim president should not be elected unless he or she renounces the religion’s system of laws and governance. He also made similar comments about members of Congress and the judiciary branch.
