BY KEVIN SAWYER – They have been happily married for 54 years and have been living in a cave deep in the mountains because, when they were first married, back in 1962, they couldn’t afford an apartment or a home. So, they trekked out into the mountains just outside of the Chinese city of Nanchong and found a cave that they thought would make the perfect home.

Liang Zigu, 81, and Li Suying, 77, found the perfect cave shortly after they were married. They thought it the perfect place except for one thing. There were three other families already living in that particular cave. No problem, though, for the young married couple. They just moved in and adapted to a sort of communal life with the others. Over the last 54 years, all of the other families have moved out and the cave has been there own for quite a few decades.

The had and raised four children in the cave yet all of their grown children have since left to make their own way in the world. The lovebirds, however, refuse to leave their home. It is all they know. It is all they love. No one is going to get them to move. They were finally found and a local story was done on them. It ended up going viral on regional social media and even the local government offered them a free house if they came down out of the mountains.

They refused the offer.

When one has a home, there is always lots to do. The couple has, over the years, turned their cave into a three bedroom home complete with a kitchen and a living room. They planted the roof of the cave and have, for many years, had all of the produce they need to live on. They dug a well for fresh water, have access to electricity, and built a sty to house some pigs that they use for meat. They have no wish to leave their home.

They know that the cave is safe as well as being very cool in the summer and extremely warm during the harsh winters. The couple admit that they have been a bit lonely from time to time and wish they had some company once in a while. Especially since all of their children have moved away.
