Marco Rubio suspends his presidential campaign

Following a crushing loss in his home state of Florida to Donald J. Trump, Republican presidential candidate Senator Marco Rubio has suspended his campaign.

“This is the right way forward for our party, for our country,” Rubio told supporters in Miami. “But after tonight, it’s clear that while we are on the right side this year, we will not be on the winning side.

The loss leaves questions hanging in the air regarding Rubio’s future, as he returns to Florida with his tail between his legs and as a lame-duck senator, having chosen not to pursue reelection in order to focus on his presidential campaign.

Some have speculated he may run for governor in 2018.

Jeb Bush didn’t endorse Rubio preceding the Florida primary, signaling a bad showing to come.
