Thousands of school kids will score a full, four-year college scholarship with an assist from basketball superstar LeBron James.

James announced he’s giving the academic scholarships to all 1,100 kids currently in his “I Promise” program – another 1,200 students are expected to be eligible when the scholarships take effect.

His foundation will start covering tuition costs for students entering the University of Akron in Ohio in 2021 – when this year’s seventh graders have graduated high school. The cost for four years at the university is about $34,000 per student.

Kids will have to maintain academic and attendance standards set by the LeBron James Family Foundation’s I Promise Program. James has been sponsoring the program for five years to promote academics and physical fitness for young people.
