Hero dog Figo reunited with owner whose life he saved

Months ago, Audrey Stone was hit by a school mini-bus and spent her time in rehab with one goal in mind: to get well so she could bring back home the guide dog that had jumped in front of a bus to save her.

Figo, the golden retriever/her, had surgery himself and went back to his trainers. It was to ensure he could get back to work again.

Monday at her New York house, Stone was greeted by the pooch as he strode up her driveway.

“Oh, my good boy,” she exclaimed as she petted the tail-wagging dog, “You’re home – finally!”

They are old acquaintances (6 1/2 years), as Stone is legally blind and in need of her guide dog’s assistance, and were both pretty disrupted by the June 8th crash in Brewster (60 miles north of Manhattan). She was a block from her home when she crossed the street.

The dog leaped to put himself between her and the turning bus. They were both injured, but Figo remained by her side.

He has been brought cards and dog toys and has received calls from as far away as England. Figo with also receive this year’s Dog of the Year award from the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
