Yes, you read that headline correctly.
An 11 year old Panda in Taiwan faked the signs of pregnancy after noticing that she would receive better living conditions. 
She had been inseminated back in March while she was in heat and Taipei Zoo had waited with anticipation.
Yuan Yuan, the clever panda, had exhibited loss of appetite, a thickening of the uterus and increased progesterone in her fecal matter. All of this since June 11.
She was given an ultrasound and panda experts from the Chinese mainland determined that she wasn’t pregnant.
Now her symptoms are beginning to abate.
What was in it for Yuan Yuan? A single room with air conditioning, round-the-clock pampering, and extra fruits and bamboo.
Already being a popular attraction at the zoo, Yuan Yuan apparently wanted to sweeten the deal.
It is a belief of experts that pandas who are especially clever can display behavior that mimics pregnancy and will likely do it after noticing a difference in how they are treated.
Apparently, this is common among pandas in captivity as the Huffington Post ran a story on Ai Hin, a panda who was set to give the first live birth, did the same in August of 2014.
Just when you thought animals couldn’t get any cooler.
