On Wednesday, 29-year-old Vincente David Montano attacked audience members in a movie theater in Nashville, Tennessee with pepper spray and an axe. Three victims were being treated for pepper spray exposure, while one was injured by the axe.

A SWAT team shot the man dead as he attempted to make an escape.

The attacker wore two backpacks and a surgical mask, probably to protect himself from pepper spray. He was also armed with a pellet gun.

Only eight people were in the theater, which was showing Mad Max: Fury Road.

According to Metro Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron, Montano had been received psychiatric treatment on at least four occasions. Montano was also arrested in 2004 for assault and resisting arrest.
