Environmental activist will be wearing his trash to prove a point

BY KEVIN SAWYER – American environmentalist Rob Greenfield had been searching for a way to truly make a point about how much trash people can generate in a day or even a week. So, what he came up with was that he would wear the trash he generated every day. As a result, his activism has begun to gain some attention.

For a total of thirty days, Greenfield will wear the trash he produces everyday and walk around in public trying to get people to think about the environment impact as well as the amount of trash that gets generated on Earth everyday. His protest, of sorts, will end on October 19. Going about his day to day life, Greenfield has been producing about four and a half pounds of trash every day. He has a website set up for the project as well as a YouTube channel dedicated to his project.

He claims that he has been generating about thirty pounds of trash a week and predicts he will have worn about 140 pounds of trash total at the end of the month’s experiment. Greenfield knows that most people just dispose of their trash and haul their garbage cans to the curb every week and never give it all a second thought. He hopes that his startling appearance will get people thinking and moves them to action.

Greenfield has partnered with a non profit film producer to create a web series that will entail six episodes. It will show him going about his day to day routine and actually allowing people to see how they generate trash without even being truly aware of it all. The six part web series is called TrashMe.

So far, just a week or so into his project, Greenfield has put on about ten pounds which, he says, is just a little shy of what most people are producing during that time span. He has built a special trash bag type of suit that will hold up to around 140 pounds. He expects to not be able to move all that much by the end of the thirty days.
